What's wrong with Instagram and Snapchat on Android? Stories videos look like they were taken by an entry level phone and it's so annoying. I'm a photography enthusiast and I love this format very much.

Here's the thing, premium Android phones nowadays have superior cameras and take better pictures than any iPhone. So why does the issue still remains? I know it's up to the devs to optimize their apps for Android, but frankly, the average joe user doesn't care, and I certainly really considers purchasing an iPhone. I was hoping that Samsung would fix this with the S10 but it was all talk. I don't get it, what's the purpose of having the best camera if phones aren't gonna compete with the iPhone on this front?

If you are an active Instagram user, you’d be well aware of the importance of the quality of photos you upload to this platform. But many users complain that iPhone reduces quality of their photos automatically when they upload it. iPhone camera is superb. And when you take a photo with an iPhone camera and upload it to other social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, the quality remains the same. But poor photo quality Instagram seems to be a problem in iPhones because photo size and quality is reduced by the device in order to optimize storage. There are several ways to fix photo quality reduced in iPhone problem.

Fix Instagram Keeps Reducing Quality of Photos in iPhone

1- Go to Settings and head over to Photos & Camera settings. Make sure that the option titled “Optimize iPhone Storage” is unchecked. If this option is checked, your iPhone will upload poor quality photos on Instagram. For some users, this option won’t be visible without iCloud Photo Library.

2- In 2015, Instagram announced that it had rolled out a special algorithm to accommodate 1080×1080 images. The company said that higher pixel photos will retain their quality, and file sizes will remain the same. But several tests showed that Instagram was allocating more file size to photos after the update. It’s just impossible to create a balance between quality and file size.

3- If you are exporting your photos from DSLR and want to upload them to Instagram while retaining their original quality, you’ll have to edit your photos for Instagram. Make sure your photo doesn’t cross 1080 pixels because that’s the maximum resolution that Instagram allows. Any photo bigger than this size would be ruined by Instagram’s algorithms. You can edit your photos and resize them to 1080p using any photo editor like Photoshop or GIMP.

4- In order to stop Instagram from making your photo quality poor and reducing quality of photos, always transfer your photos to from your camera or computer via Google Drive, or email or USB drives. Never use Facebook Messenger or WhatsApp, because these apps compress photos before sending them.

5- If nothing works for you, and Instagram still reduces your photos quality, you should upload photos to Instagram from web. Instagram maintains a perfect quality of photos when you upload them from your web. You can use Android emulator to use Instagram from your computer. I explained how to use Instagram from your computer in this detailed guide.

Instagram is a phenomenon .. and the statistics make interesting reading .. which is only partly the reason why it reduces the size of photos ..

  • In excess of 40 Billion Images
  • More than 95 Million Posts Per Day (statistics as of 2016)

The primary reason is to do with the fact that it is designed for viewing predominantly on mobile devices .. the majority are obviously mobile phones which have limited displays ..

  • Instagram recommend images upto 1080px Wide by 1350px High
  • With an Aspect Ratio of 4:5

Enjoy your Photography !
